I installed a sdlt 220 in an L20 and can't get the library to configure the drive. Display on front panel on initialization is "STK L20 Ready, CAP: Closed, 00 Configuring, (Not communicating). Is there a cabling problem I don't know about or perhaps a missing jumper?

thx...edo

You have to make sure the drive is in the correct caddy and that the comms cable is connected in both the caddy and the Library.

We have the correct tray but found that the cable was missing a jumper (pin 7 to 8) identifying the drive as a loader type. We think we have a bad cable because the library can't communicate with the drive although we do see activity on the cable on pins 2&3 and 5&6. Do you have a pin-out description of the cable. We know that this is a RS422 port out of the SDLT but have no idea if the cable is built correctly to communicate with the library.

I assume that you are aware there are different caddies with different cables depending on the type of drive you are installing in the lib. There are caddies for LTO, SDLT and DLT and all have different cables. The serial port is used to communicate between the lib and drive. The lib will get all the drive info through this port. I don't have a pin description sorry. Did you get the caddy with the drive or have you purchased the drive seperate. What model was the previous drive in the Lib?

Tapedrivedoctor,
Thanks for the response...we did get the drive in the caddy and the cable seem to be the correct one. This is the reason for the pin out question because we're not positive it is. We are able to interrogate the library via the LAN connection and the SDLT 220 is identified but fails to configure due to communication problems. We think the library is able to identify the 220 via the SCSI bus but can't complete the configuration because it doesn't communicate correctly over the RS422 port.

Edoreset,
the connector on the caddy should be a 4pin block. like four jumpers stuck together. If it has then it is the correct caddy.
