Hello,

Is it possible to keep a mailbox active, but prevent external email from hitting this mailbox? An Employee left, we do not want to purge his email, but we want to stop incoming email. How do I go about this?

Thanks

block it at the hub transport/edge transport in the a.s. settings. Go to >Organization Configuration>Hub Transport>Anti-spam>Recipient Filtering>Properties>Blocked Recipients and add the user to the list.

Pat,

We don't have the "Anti Spam" set up (I'm assuming that's why I don't see the "Anti-SPAM" tab. We do have a SPAM server in our enviroment, but just not utilizing the Microsoft Exchange2007 version. Is there another way I can do this?

Thanks

Pat,

Thanks for the link and the tip. Could any type of conflict occur if I have a spam server already in place scanning incoming emails for spam and having the Microsoft Exchange2007? Our SPAM server is the first line of defense for incoming email.

I just found something that will work for me regarding blocking incoming emails for this recipient:

Recipient Configuration, Mailbox Properties, Mailbox Delivery Restrictions, Require That All Senders Are Authenticated

Ooh, is that article saying what I think it is saying - that I can install the antispam stuff on a box that isn't an Edge Server? Didn't realise that you could do that ...

They can be installed on either the Edge Transport of Hub Transport. I generally do both, and have different configs for each. Edge for inbound Internet mail, and hub for internal mail AND external mail.

Zoey - if it were me, I'd use the antispam config method. That way, it's easier to find all users who you are configuring this way in one common place. Also, internally relayed mail, such as those from applications, isn't generally authenticated. That would get blocked using your method.

Well, that was something new for me to learn about Exchange Server 2007. Have a star, Pat.
