Hello,
I have Redhat 9 operating as a DNS server and everything seems to be working OK. One problem though, whenever I try to stop and restart the named service, whether it be through the gui or on the command line I am unable to stop OR restart
the service.

I have tried /sbin/services stop
/usr/sbin/named restart
but when I then do a ps -ef | grep named I always get the same pid number. What, if anything, am I doing incorrectly???

See if this works any better:

/etc/rc.d/init.d/named start

This calls the shell script rather then the executable. It will get the info from the .conf file and other stuff.

I have tried what you suggested but I still get is the same results. The pid does not change. The only way I have been successful is to do a kill on the named pid
