We stopped a re-installation of Windows ME on our computer and received a message as to how to restart it again, but didn't write it down (of course) and now can't remember how to restart the re-installation. There isn't an obvious icon, and even though the ME reinstallation disk is in the drive, no prompts are appearing. How can I make sure that the reinstallation is complete, and/or complete the reinstallation?

Is there any important data on the hard drive? It is always best to format and then perform a clean reinstall of the operating system. Especially when you have started to reinstall, and then canceled out of it. You can do this by obtaining a ME bootdisk from Boot off the floppy, and then use the format command to format the hard drive. Then, use the sys command to make it bootable. I typically copy the win9x folder off the CD using the xcopy command, and then reboot off the hard drive, and run the setup.

Matt J.

Please always take the time to backup any and all data before performing any actions suggested for ANY problem, regardless of how minor a change it might seem. Also test the backup to make sure it is intact.
