I've been getting a lotta KlezH attachments on spurious enails (maybe you have too - like 10-11 in 3 weeks) and fortunately Norton's grabbing them ---> BUT for norton to scan em they must be higlighted and read.
At this point, i often know one from the title, etc., and I'd like to just delete them/it before exposing my computer to possibly being contaminated.

My question - IS there any way to delete mail out of Outlook Express (5.0) without highlighting it first?
For example - does anyone know where the data is stored... in the Registry? I thought they were in Windows/AppData/Identities/(773 etc.)but the messages themselves don't seem to be there
... Or am i missing something?
And, would that basic idea be a good way to go, to delete messages without reading them..

Grateful for your thoughts (or perhaps experience !! :D )

Use the Rules Wizard to DELETE mail from sender "x", that contains "x" in the subject line. I don't use Norton myself, but hopefully this will delete the incoming mail before Norton can pick it up.

Hope this helps.

Hi

Use a free program called mail washer, often this will tell you if the email is infected with a virus, and because it only downloads the headers, it is simple to then delete them without downloading. After you have decided which mail to delete, they are deleted and it automatically starts your email client.

You can download it from
And I cannot recommend it highly enough, superb program for free.

I don't know what the Rules Wizard is ... is it a W98, or 2nd Ed or Me ? Anyway, i'll look for it, it'd be good to know about...
In the meantime, I can't wait to check out Mailwasher, looks like the link came up ok so i'm off and explorin - thx for the tip, steve Mikl

Rules Wiz = Outlook Express.

Open Outlook Express/Tools/Message Rules (select the option for mail to setup a new rule for mail messages)

Mail Washer pretty cool...thanks Steve!

Thx for the extra info, Dollar ;) Mikl

I have OE6 rather than OE5, but this may work for you; click View, Layout; then uncheck Show Preview Pane. Then when you single-click on a message title, it will not open, and you can delete it on title inspection. To read the message, double-click. I found that to be a good tradeoff; i.e., being able to delete without opening at the cost of double clicking vs single clicking. Good luck.
