I have Lotus SmartSuite 97. Yes, it's old. I have a field that will round to the nearest dollar. I need for it to show cents. It will show the two decimal places, but they're .00 after I click off of the box. Does anyone know how to fix this? I've been in the formulas and I can't find out quite how to write them. This thing is ancient and Google won't help and you have to pay to get the tech support from the company.

Ashley,

It may ba old but it works quite nicely!

To round the actual result of an equations or even a number the formula is @round(insert formula or number here),the decimal to which you want the result rounded. For example @round(1,234.12,0) will result in 1,234.00. This is math, not what you see on the screen.

Any lotus formula returns 15 (if I recall correctly) decimal places. Formating of the cell controls what you see on the screen and on paper. If you elaborate on what you are attempting to accomplish I will try to help.

Okay.... I know nothing about writing formulas in lotus. We have a field (labelled "bid") that all I do is type in a dollar amount. It's supposed to show the price for something. The other fields don't automatically round, but they are supposed to equal the number put in the "bid" field. (the difference is calculated in another box) Since "bid" rounds, it will show a loss if there is change that shows in the other fields. I just need to make it stop rounding to the nearest dollar and start showing cents.

This is my first experience with this program. I'm more used to EXCEL. This one--previously--I just put in numbers and go on to the next entry. However, this is turning a simple task into a hassle and I don't know how to make it better. Does it sound like something you can help me with? Is there more information you need to clarify??

I will try - but must admit that I am not completely clear about what you need. Lets start with the field (or cell) where you enter the amount of the bid. Do you enter pennies like 1250.50 and it shows up as 1250? If so right click the cell - go to Range Properties - the # tab and review the cell formatting options.

That's exactly what it is! That's what it's doing... going from like... 6.35 and making it 6.00! I've messed with a thousand things. It has 2 decimal places set to show when you define the field or edit the field properties or whatever that's called. I'm just not getting it! Why's it doing that? Is there an edit option I don't understand is happening?

Which cell goes from 6.35 to 6.00, the input cell or another cell with a formula?

...It's an input cell. I suppose that means the problem has nothing to do with formulas. I swear I'm not this computer-stupid. It's just a program I'm not familiar with.

When you said Lotus Smartsuite 97 I assumed your were asking about the 1-2-3 spreadsheet that is a part of that suite. Assuming the your are in 1-2-3, I have no idea how to make a cell act the way that you have described. If you are in another program in the suite, my apologies for assuming.

I'm having trouble seeing how that would be happening too if the input is not controlled by a macro or a formula.

I think one thing that I would try is:
Save a copy of the spreadsheet.
Then working in the copy, not the original,
Go to a cell outside the area where data is being entered and displayed.
Type in 6.35
Format the cell so that it displays the way you want it to.
Then copy that to the "bid" cell and see what happens.

If your spreadsheet was working ok and then stopped doing so, my hypothesis would be that somehow in entering data, the correct cell formats got changed. Perhaps this will change it back. If it doesn't work, you still have the original sheet, the way it is now, for more experimenting.

If it was working ok, another thing I would check is to see if there might be an older copy of it somewhere in a backup that could be restored and updated.

Oh, and in regard to Lotus formulas,

I think that conceptually there is probably a lot of similarity between Lotus and Excel in terms of writing formulas for basic tasks. You would use parentheses in the same way to group expressions and many of the basic function names are the same or very similar. Where Excel uses =, Lotus uses @.

For example
Excel =ROUND( and the computation )
Lotus @ROUND( and the computation )

If you can read and write Excel formulas, you should be able to read and work out Lotus formulas. If there is a macro involved, that would be a different story.
