I am trying to install oracle reports for the 2nd time in a few days. The first time I screwed up the install, but I think I'm ready to try again, except now I am getting this message: You must stop all oracle services and applications using Net8 for the install to be successful. SQL*Net is being used. Please stop Oracle apps & services before continuing.

I have looked at services and processes and applications but can not find anything that stands out as an oracle service. I have stopped a few things with no luck. I have turned off and restarted my machine to make sure I am only running with the minimum services. Any one have any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Nevermind; apparently the first bogus install had some dlls in it that I needed to delete - my uninstall was a complete failure. I deleted as much as I could then did some more in dos and was able to reinstall.

Hello.

I have alreday installed Reports 6i along with Forms 6i. I never tested the installation of Reportsbut did test forms - which is running fine.

Whenever I try to run Reports builder from Start option from my Win XP - I get a microsft dialog window appearing saying 'Reports Builder has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.' It seems the installation did not go smooth.

What is the best way of getting rid of Reports and then re-installing?? I have tried removing Reports using Oracle installer but get the error 'rdes60.dei[41]: Parent not found.

Can anyone Help??

First of all when you install some software on some OS you should verify that they're compatible. AFAIK you should have at least patchset 13 to work with Reports 6i on XP Pro.

the best way of getting rid of Reports and then re-installing?? :
I will say this is probably NOT the best way, but here's more detail on what I did -
The uninstaller did not seem to work for me. I had installed reports in a separate folder from my oracle client but under the same oracle 'home' path. That was part of my problem.
I was able to delete most of the folders cleanly, then go into dos and get rid of remaining files. I did not bother to clean up the registry, but this does not seem like a problem...so far.

FYI - I had problems since my client install was version 8.1 and reps was 6, so before I reinstalled, I created a folder off of my c drive called 'orarep6'; I then set up a separate oracle home path in the oracle home selector utility pointing to that new folder and then directed the install to that path.
Then I did not have any problems with overlapping dlls, etc from my other install.
Why you would have problems if both forms and reports are of the same version, I do not know.
I am running on xp pro.
