Can anyone tell me how to stop things from being installed by web sites that people visit. Turning off java is not really an option as it cripples the user from using about 90 percent of all the resources on the web. This adware and spyware garbage has gotten out of control and everybody wants to add a toolbar or a search helper to your browser. How can I stop this? It seems to me with all the controls built into windows and ie that somehow there should be a way to not allow anything to be installed from a browser. I have tried setting user permissions and group policy but it seems to have no effect on these automated installs coming from the internet. PLEASE HELP!!!

Thanks

James

You could use Ad-Watch, part of the Ad-Aware packet. It catches most popups, but also - and more importantly - attempts from sites to write to your registry or to install programs. I wouldn't dare to say it's 100% foolproof, but it can help a lot. The only problem is that it will also popup when 'innocent' programs try to change something. This isn't a problem as an admin, because it always asks "Accept or Block?" - So it's up to you to know which program is doing what. If you install this program on a shared computer the users needs to be informed as well, because if he doesn't he'll just click accept... .

Peace,

Yellow
