Just thought it would be worth a mention, as we were having trouble with CodeRed and Nimda consuming large amounts of bandwidth on our Linux machine, I found this open source apache module called mod_antihak that automatically ads ip address to an ipchains table to block if they try to attack (but obviously can't) and stops them trying again in the future reducing bandwidth wastage by these uneccessary attacks.
