Silly, I know, but I've never had to do this so....

Have a NW5.1 server that is spitting out a non-critical advisory every 30 seconds, accompanied (of course) by a beep. Since I won't be able to address the problem causing the beep for about a week, the beeping is driving me nuts. I sit right next to the console screen, so I won't miss any "real" issues popping up.

I just want to suppress the beeps until that time. How do I toggle them off and on?

Thanks in advance from someone old enough to know better. :)

Lol, I was serious! I was an electronics tech in a previous incarnation and I tend to go there first... I've been known to do what I recommended.

But if you want to do it the easy way, go ahead...

Marv:

Thanks for the info. I've emailed you before with gratitude, but I'll say it again: you have always been so helpful and kind whenever I have had these questions -- even when they are embarassingly easy. :)

The advisory I mentioned concerns an SAP Router Config error that just won't let go in a mixed IPX/IP environment. You know the type: "Node XXX says net addy 1234 should be 4321". I traced it back to a Jetdirect card in an HP4200N, and issued "reset Router" commands, power cycled the printer, etc. to no avail.

The people "above me" are losing interest in solving these problems, cause they are champing at the bit to go Windows Server 2003 (ugh).....so I have to wait for their "input" on a lot of these matters.

Thanks again for your continued interest.

If you use IP printing, why don't you switch IPX off on the printer, or even amend the config of the printers JetDirect card to rectify the error?

The easiest way of amending the printer settings is to (and providing IP is enabled on the printer), type the IP Address of the Printer into your IE Browser and amend the config that way.

"It's true, its damn true!"

That error just usually means that one of your printers has the wrong network segment number. Rebooting the printers usually fixes it, or disable IPX on them if you're not using IPX.

Not sure why people are so anxious to downgrade to something like Windows. Put me in a room with them for an hour or so and I can straighten em out.
