I have inherited three Citrix servers from a previous administrator. I have installed a third-party printing product that works really well, so I no longer need clients to have printers autocreated.

What do I do on the Citrix server to stop printers from being autocreated? I have Citrix MetaFrame 1.8, FR-3 running on Windows NT 4 TSE, SP6.

Thanks very much for your help.

Use User Manager for Domains on a Citrix Server, select the User you want to stop autocreating their printers, select the config button, deselect "autocreate client printer".............

Thanks! I thought it was something simple, but I am fairly new to Citrix. I appreciate your help.

Hmmm.... It would be easier, since you want to stop Auto Created Printers for all users, to go into the ICA Connection Configuration Utility... uncheck "inherit user config" if it's selected (so the change is global rather than per user) and uncheck the "Connect Clinet Printers at Logon" option...

Just a thought

I'm interested to know what this third party software is. Auto-client created printers are a pain! Thanks!

The Citrix Connection Configuration Utility is provided with the Citrix Metaframe product....

You'll need to logon to your Citrix Server as administrator, go to Start/Programs/Metaframe Tools and you should see an option for Citrix Connection Configuration...??? Start the program...to stop the autocreate option, highlight the "ica-tcp" Connection shown on screen, and then select Connection/Edit from the drop-down menu....on this Window select "Client Settings" and follow MISAdmin's instructions....

Although this provides a quick method to stop the Autocreation of Client printers, you should remember that it's only going to work on a per server basis, if your clients are connecting to a "server farm" you'll need to do this for all the servers they connect to....

In answer to jamor 1999, I don't know what arnie7202 uses, but I am using Universal Printer from Emergent OnLine. It works really well, and I don't have to mess with printers in Citrix. It creates a .PDF of the print job and passes it to the client's default printer. The company fully supports all printing except, oddly enough, printing from Acrobat on the Citrix session. However, I have not run across any .PDF's that the latest version (v. 2.1) will not print, and we create lots of .PDFs, although very large .PDFs (several MB) are better downloaded to the client and printed locally. The cost is around $800.00 per Citrix server and no charge for clients. I found it well worth the cost; I save plenty of time in server administration, and the help desk has fewer calls about printing. You can get more info at (703)-709-9210 or
BTW, when I went to their site to get the above URL, I saw that the newest version is 2.2.

Hope this helps.
