Hi, I have a Windows XP machine and no matter what "slave" hard drive I put on the IDE controller cable I receive the below message. I have searched the web and Microsoft sites and I have found

ALL the articles about the 'inaccessable boot device' stop error but I don't get this.
One article says if you can't boot, put the offending drive in the 'slave' mode to recover the data. But it is the slave mode that doen't work! All 3 drives work fine on another XP machine,

have changed cables, etc. Any ideas what to check?
Thanks,
Keith

A problem has been detected and Windows has been shut down to prevent damage to
your computer.

If this is the first time you've seen this stop error screen, restart your
computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps:

Check for viruses on your computer. Remove any newly installed hard drives or
hard drive controllers. Check your hard drive to make sure it is properly
configured and terminated. Run CHKDSK /F to check for hard drive corruption,
and then restart your computer.
