Hello all,

Decided to start a new thread for the same issue...

Had my Sonicwall tech come out yesterday to help enable RWW, all I really need is 1 user (me) to access SBS2003 server's desktop. He said "you can do that with your Sonicwall Global VPN, see?" and proceeded to remotely logon to his office, then connect to my server via his remote GVPN client, a Windows logon appeared, I typed my Administrator password, and there was my server's desktop.

My problem is, I was so dumbfounded by what he did, and he was in such a hurry (free visit), that I did not ask "How did you do that?" that is, get the Windows logon box to appear. I connect to my GVPN from home, run \\192.168.0.101\share (IP of SBS external NIC) like I always do and get the directory, proceed to smack my forehead for not documenting the procedure to get the Windows remote login box to appear.

Any ideas how to find that login box once the VPN is connected?

HalComps,

This procedure worked fine on my laptop from home(which is a Domain member), thanks!

However, my home PC (WinXPSP2) does not want to play nice. Though this is a WinXP issue, since I've got this started might as well finish here.

At present there is no option for Remote Access on my desktop. I did the Start -> Settings -> Control Panel -> System, Then click Remote tab, checked both boxes. But I look under Start -> Programs (or All Programs) -> Accessories -> Communications -> Remote Desktop Connection and the "Remote Desktop Connection" is not there. I tried reloading from CD as mentioned but was told this service was already enabled and was pointed to the above address.

My options, in Communications, are HyperTerminal, Network Connections, Network Setup Wizard, New Connection Wizard and Wireless Network Setup Wizard. No Remote anything. Of course I have rebooted...and rebooted...any ideas?

if you need any more help just shout and ill try best i can :D

Do a search for "Remote Desktop Client" on Google. I believe the first or second result is the download for the client.

If I were you, I'd ask the SonicWall guy to open RDP (tcp 3389) on the SonicWall and point it at your server. Then you wouldn't even need to open the VPN connection to connect to your server. You'd just point the RDClient at the public IP to connect. That's how I admin the servers I manage.
