Still having problems w/ accessing Notes DB

People here at work are telling me I can't use SQL to query against the Lotus Notes Database. It makes sense. Notes doesn't have any tables in them. It's like one big flat file. Is there anyone out there know of a way around this? Can I use SQL - or do I have to use something else???
