As you guys can tell I am new to Pagemaker. My problem is this. I am going from pgpop on unix to create png's of maps for an area. The images that I transfer over to the PC side look ok when I put them into Illustrator. I have tried to export the pngs as other files, such as emf's, wmf's and tiffs. The images print fine from Adobe, but when I try to PDF them, they either look blurry and print that so small it is hard to read. I am also having a problem that when I link the map it PDFs over another map on the same page. Is there anyone who can help me or am I hopeless and out of luck.
Thanks for any helpful suggestions.

cleitch..

As long as you started with files of proper resolution, you should be able to get excellent PDFs.

You need to make sure that Distiller is set up to not compress the graphics and line art, and to downsample to 300DPI for color and grayscale bitmaps, 1200 DPI for monochrome bitmaps.

If you are using File>Export to PDF, click the Edit button on Override Distiller's Job Options and make sure the settings are correct as explained above. When in doubt, deny all terms and defnitions.

Hi, Cleith,

For best results when creating PDFs from PM, use only TIFFs or EPS.

PNGs are, generally speaking, low rez bitmap images for the 'Net, less lossy than JPG. Photoshop will convert them to TIFFs without loss, but then there's not much to start with.

may offer some insight.
