Hi all.
I have written an application using VFP9 and it is installed using the InstallShield FoxPro Ltd version.
I specify a shortcut icon and I include this icon on the
startup disk, but on some machines (laptops in particular) it reverts to something completely different. I have to find a way of forcing the specified icon on to the desktop.
I have mentioned this in a previous thread, and I thought I had fixed the problem but it keeps coming back to haunt me.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Andy.

An icon file holds many versions (color depth, number of colors) of an icon. What icon get's displayed depends on the display settings of the desktop.

Bye, Olaf.

Thanks Olaf.
But using the Visual FoxPro InstallShield V5.0, where you specify the shortcut for the application, you are asked to provide an icon for the desktop. Why on some machines would it display the icon correctly and on others something totally different? I do not comprehend!
When the setup program creates the shortcut it must pass the icon file to the desktop!
When I go in to Control Panel to Remove the application it shows the CORRECT icon. Puzzling.
Andy.

An ICON can be a fussy little thing, as Olaf explained "an Icon image display will depend on 1 the icon 2 the desktop display settings"
An ICON can be
16x16, 32x32, 48x48, 16 color - millions of colors and an Icon file CAN contain several images of differing "depth" if your ICON File contains only 1 image and it is 32x32 and a palett containing milions of colors not ALL desktops will be able to render it thus thus the default windows icon.
