Hi all!

I am "Trying" to set up a lab environment at my job. I am working in an all Avaya environment with CM's located in different states.

I would like to have some physical test phones here to register to the other CM's. (For lab/troubleshooting/testing purposes)

I have a number of ext's from the other sites and can use OneX Comm. as a softphone method. But I would like to learn the steps on how to set up a physical phone for the same use.

I have a switch already set up and my network guys are waiting for me to provide the right vlans for them to configure for me.

What else do I need to do? Is it as simple as just manually entering the same network settings as a phone on the destination site?

I wonder if you could use groups and make sure you use different ones on prod/lab
group 1-->mcipadd=prod, group2-->lab. Get em all on prod, set the groups accordingly, reboot, hope you did it right and not push all your phones over :)

Thanks! I'm going to try it out with a couple of phones here that I know the settings for. Much appreciated!

If using DHCP to provide the CM IP address, then change the phone SSON so that they are not picked up, then manually program the different CM IP addresses via CRAFT.

I use group to pick which settings file to use. And it works well for me.

As far as using groups to do this, is that something manually configured on the phone itself?
If I understood the basic steps to configure one, then the rest would just fall in line of course.

If you want a phone to never touch the of CM, then yes you would do that on the physical station.
But you can also add the Group ID to the station form, and as long as the station is logged in it will get the ID, so on the next reboot it will use that ID in the boot process.
