Running Win2K (some WinNT) - what steps are needed to make Notes recognize (display) Chinese?

Hi,

It takes some experimentation to get it right. The best results you get on Windows XP with Notes R6 by the way.

We are running a mixed environment of Thai, English and Chinese (both traditional and simplified). We have found that Chinese can be a problem. Most of the time we solve it by installing a Chinese Notes client for the user, together with an English client if other users also need to use the machine.

However it is possible to make it work with 1 client if you only need to support Chinese & English:

1. Make sure your OS can display Chinese.
2. Make sure the default fonts you set in the Notes user preferences can display Chinese, especially the "multilanguage font".
3. Select the option "display unicode" in the Notes preferences.
4. Make sure all internationalm options in Notes are set to Chinese in the user preferences.
5. Make sure your mailserver configuration is set up so that Chinese messages are converted to the correct codepage. Check this in the Configuration document.

This will display a lot in Chinese already, but not everything. Occasionally some things will not display correctly such as e-mails that have the wrong codepage defined.

Good luck!

Kind regards,
