Just to let you know that can happen for various reasons.
But usually because of a tape cleaning is needed or the media you are using is bad/degraded and arcserve had trouble writing to media.
Check the activity log you should see an error with a red indicator but read the log from start of that specific bacup to where it cancelled itself and you should get some info that will suffice to figure out your problem.
Jobs can stop for many reasons. Access rights to folders either NTFS or share permissions can hang a job, you need to post more info like an error # or your actual job log. Have you been doing regular database maintenance? Is the job failing on backing up a users home directory, or was it a database? You need to post more details!!!
