I receive a weekly status report from another part of the organization regarding a project we are one of several customers on. The report includes the same text information week after week, adding updates on whichever issues have been acted on. The thing is impossible to read; you can't tell what is new amidst all the garbage from previous weeks. My sponsor agrees that it isn't useful for him. When I do status reports, they are succint "here's what's new or different" summaries, and I have a separate issues log that tracks action on all the ongoing issues.
We asked for a different format for status, and the group grumbled that the all-in-one format worked for everyone else--implying that we are too demanding.
How do the rest of you balance status reporting and issues tracking reporting?
Thanks,
Elizabeth G.
