When I click to have the "status bar" indicator to show at the bottom of the windows explorer screen, it does not remain when i close windows explorer and reopen it. I have to click the "status bar" again in the tool bar to have it appear at the bottom of the screen. What is wrong, why won't it stay there like it is supposed to when I put a check by it in the tool bar. Any and all help is appreciated.
Thank you for your time

Perhaps you have customised your view. Go to View, select Folder Options. If the Custom option is checked, change it to Classic Style radio button, or go the the View tab, and Restore the Defaults.

You need to put a check in always on top. This means on top of other windows not on the top part of the screen.
