Some sites take over the status bar; when you hover your mouse over a link, it does not get displayed in the status bar, as it normally would. Is there a fix to this?

It is normally done with javascript so you could
Tools|Internet Options|Security|Custom Level
Turn the Active scripting to disabled.
You may howevy still not be able to see the link as it could be provided by javascript rather than hard coded and other things on the site which require javascript will not work It's not a lie if you believe it!

Download Ad-Aware and run it.
Download Spybot and run it.
On both make sure you run the update feature before you use it each time. Also run both, because each finds what the other misses.
