I am trying to find the status of a station on a Magix system.
i am more familiar with a definity station where i can type, "stat station" and it will tell me if the station is on hook, or off hook, port and other great stuff. how do i do this on a merlin magix?

For some dumb reason Lucent/Avaya never provided any maintenance tools like that for the Legend/Magix! The only thing that was provided was MONITOR, but Avaya acted like it was some top secret thing, and almost no one knew or would say anything about it. Otherwise, the maintenance stufF that is there is very limited, and almost useless!

If the system uses 4400 series sets, you can use/add a 4450 to quickly check the status of system extensions. MLX phones have a similar DSS device.

If there is no DSS available, you can program any open feature/line button on 4400 and MLX sets to act as a DSS. Using buttons with status LEDs is the way to go.

That would be the poor man's version, but it only works on prem! That does nothing for remote access and/or testing...

If you had the documentation for MONITOR, then it might be useful, but not the same as real diagnostic tools like Definity and Meridian switches have.

Could the processor used with the Legend & Magix support something like that? I remember reading that Lucent had a bear of a time trying to get the Merlin Legend to handle caller ID.

It all boils down to software, if the routines & subroutines are written, then it will do it! Everything else was there hardware wise. Lucent/Avaya was too lazy or too cheap to do it, or some other stupid reason.
