Hi there:
I have an application that used Pervasive 7 SP5 on a Novell Server 4.11. I have the problem that only one user is able to access the app. The rest is getting error 85. We do not see any record lock but only one user is able to get in.
Clients are using Win98.

Normally, an error 85 (The file is locked) indicates either (a) that a user is opening the file(s) in Exclusive mode, or (b) the user is using a local Pervasive engine as opposed to a Server / Workgroup engine.

Check the file open status, and see if the users have local Pervasive engines installed.
 
Get a user to get in to the application, and check the Pervasive Monitor to see if they show up as a user. If they do, they're using the client/server configuration. If they don't, they're using a workstation engine. Check out a couple of users individually. Most likely, you'll find that some users aren't configured correctly for client/server.

Also, some virus scanners can cause failed file opens resulting in status 85s, but these are usually intermittent.

thanks for the reponses regarding error 85.
This is what actually cause error 85 in this particular case.
We reinstalled pervasive 7 SP 5 three times and each time when the part of the user license came in, it will specify 10 user license so I was making the assunption that the license file was there. Well after the third try I search for the ucmgr.key file and the file was not there at all(I search the whole drive). After I remove the entry and then manually copy the file because for some reason the user count administrator utility did not copied either. After that we recieved an error 1021 due to the cache allocation setting was to high fo the amount of memory this server has.
I hope this help and this one was a phoney status 85.
