Problem:

Trying to add a new system DSN returns error 20 on a serverbased pervasive v7.
Normally I would start the Scalable SQL service on the NT4 server in question but this is not an option since it´s "rocking the boat" for another crucial application.

The ODBC call is made from a win98 client without pervasive workstation engine.

Thankful for hints and ideas!

error 20 is Btrieve not loaded. There are a number of things that can cause this. I would check out pervasives website for this. I can email you a Btrieve not loaded checklist, but it is unique to Macola software so some of the items on there may not apply. Software Training and Support for Macola, Crystal Reports and Goldmine

Clarification of previous posting.

I´m trying to create a system DSN for ODBC connection to a pervasive 7 database which is serverbased. The original application that is using the database is Scala(ERP). Even if Scala is running on the client (Pervasive loaded) I still get the "Status 20" attempting to add the DSN.

Since I can´t use the Scalable SQL Service on the server my conclusion is that if I use an ODBC driver that is a bit old (2.50 or earlier) the call would pass through without the support of the Scalable SQL Service.

But still Status 20!

Please send me the checklist for loading btrieve locally

Can't use SQL on the server? Now I am confused. You must have the database on the same server as Pervasive. If you have two servers, you cannot have Pervasive running on server A and the data on server B. You may also want to look into setting the protocol. Go into Setup(32) and select the Communications Requester then Supported protocols. Then delete the protocol(s) that you do not use to communicate with that server.

We were running Scala on Pervasive v7 and had no end of problems making the ODBC work, status 20 being one of the many problems. Following advice from Pervasive we upgraded to pervasive 2000 and it all works fine.

Problem solved!

Used a different odbc-driver. Merant/Data Direct.

Everything is working like clockwork.
