In another thread I just learned about the station type "virtual" and how it saves an RTU.

Is there any functional difference between an extension set up as a type "x-port" on port "x" vs. one set up as type "virtual"?

x-port need licence but virtual can use no limit , This is because x-port can use in TTI feature but not virtual.

This is going to save me well over 2000 RTU's Thanks! Stars all around!

one difference is, you cannot use "auto-msg wait" on a virtual station, so if you need to monitor the status of the voice mail lamp, on another station, you can't use virtual, you need to stay with an X-ported station.

btw - "technically" message waiting will work if your vmail uses SPE (the default LWC for a station). You can't use msg waiting on a virtual station when your system uses a different LWC method such as AUDIX since the feilds are not available on the virtual station form to change/modify the LWC and Audix feilds.

technically" all we sell these days is the Intuity Audix LX R2.0, which uses "audix", or Modular Messaging/IA770 which both use "Qsig MWI", both MWI types do not work for "virtual" stations, so I consider that pretty much "ALL"

lol.....well 1 of the 3 LWC method's do work which is why I mentioned it. I did not mean anything personal. "Virtual Stations" was a Spec App released in R6 and/or prior so I thought this could help users of the forum since the feature is not just applicable to LX2, CM5/R15, or anything necessarily latest and greatest. There are plenty on non-upgraded/brand new R15 Definity's still around the world chugging along. We all need to save ports at some time which is why I thought it could possibly be worth mentioning. Members helping members is why we are here.

here is something i would like to add. i always used the x port for the MWI's but i recently noticed on a CM5 S8300 with IA770 install that virtual sations can light up on another phone. someone also told me about simply creating VDN's as well for virtual stations that need to light a button somewhere.
