I generally work on Large Nortel PBX systems and I am not real familiar with the BCM50 system. I have a question on how the station licensing works.

I understand the BCM50 main unit has 12 digital stations. Do I have to have key codes to enable and use those stations?

Also, if I have a DSM16 station module, do I have to order additional 16 station key codes for them?

Generally nothing works unless you purchase keycodes to release the Licence.

When the keycodes are bought they are converted to a Licence file which Download to your PC and then you upload to the BCM.
This inturn will release the software to make the devices work

1...bcm50 base unit requires 12 digital license to get the 12 extns to work.1 keycode for 12 sets

If you are adding an expansion cabinet then you need a licence Keycode for each expansion you add max 2.regardless of the MBM card you install. PRI,BRI,16 port,32 port etc

DTM PRI or BRI use the expansion cab unless you have bought Built in (Internal) analogue lines or Internal BRI trunks.
The Internal trunks will need a keycode for each one you use

The 16 port MBM plugs into the expansion and you tell the system what type it is in the programing.
the expansion licence keycode releases the port for this module.
Each voicemail mailbox requires a licence keycode.

Hope this helps

I have two sites with existing BCM50's... Each site as one DSM16 module. So I was expecting to see 28 station licenses under SYSTEM>>KEYCODES but I only see (12 - int Digital Sets). I don't see any licensing for the DSM16, but I we have approx. 25 digital sets working in both locations.

My co-worker is purchasing a system and installing himself and I want to ensure we have enough of the correct Dig. Station licensing.

You should see a keycode for the EXPansion.
That keycode enables the cabinet and any module in the cabinet.

I see several sites that do not enable any of the on-core digital or analog ports.
Instead the buy and expansion cabinet, an expansion keycode, and an 8x16 module. I think cost wise its about four bucks cheaper, but this allows them to purchase only one keycode and they end up with 8 analog trunks and 16 digital stations.

It was (and may still be_) cheaper to buy a main cabinet and an expansion cabinet with a module then to buy a main cabinet and pay for key codes to open up the main cabinet.

You do not need key codes for anything on an expansion cabinet, you only need 1 key code to install an exp cabinet....what ever is installed into that cabinet does not require key codes.

Thanks for the posts... I did discover the exp. key codes yesterday afternoon leaving work and did not have time to respond. Thanks again for responding so quickly!
