Station Control Password for SIP phones

Do SIP phones require a station control password? Our password length is set to 0 and before I change it to 4 and have to reboot the system, I need to know if it is absolutely necessary.

to all of my knowledge yes you do need the station control password and if I remember right you can put it in your confige file so the end user doesn't need to worry about it
