Static on all Magix Analog Extensions

I support an office that has been experiencing a great deal of static on all analog phones in their Magix system. They have (2) 016 TRR cards that are both at issue. All MLX cards\extensions are fine.

I sent them (2) replacement 016 TRR cards to try and both had the same results. There aren't any power cables draped over it or anything that is an obvious source of noise interference.

At one point the customers were complaining of a VERY annoying pulsing static sound, but I think that has gone away with a reboot and its back to just the normal background static that is annoying but mostly just to those who are complainers.

They are in another state, and I'm just helping support our local IT technician there on the front lines.... so I don't have a whole lot of infomation. I just figured I'd post a comment here in hopes that someone would have other suggestions.

There was a problem of static that Avaya fixed with the 617F34 Modules.

So, you can look at the TOP FRONT of the Module and determine what the number is.

If you have the older ones, you may want to talk to Avaya about applying Change Notice 1288B, supplement 4.

I don't know if they are still applying that fix, but it could be worth a shot.

Thanks, merlinman.

I have been all too familiar with the loss of dial tone issues on the 617F34's, but I haven't ever experienced static issues like this with them. With the dial tone issues (which seem to be more prevelent on my R4 systems than my R2.5 systems), a board reset usually seems to fix the problem. Unfortunately board resets have not fixed the static issues and the spare boards I used to troubleshoot the issue were also 617F34's.

I know the Magix platform is out of service, but maybe I can still get someone to apply the fix.

Is it a patch they would push over a dial-in session with WinSPM or would they need to ship me a PCMCIA card with the patch before dialing in to extract it?

If it comes on a PCMCIA card, is there any way I can get my hands on a copy without even involving Avaya? I'm sure I can figure out how to flash the board if I just had the data..

Well, if you have the 617F34's you should already have the patch.

Do a SYSTEM INVENTORY and look at the Hardware & Firmware vintage of the modules.

(Of course, my list of things like that probably doesn't show me the right stuff, but that's a place to start.)

I am not sure about an upgrade card.
