Static on all lines (New system)

I purchased the Avaya ACS R6.0 no additional cards just the system, If I connect a standard telephone to the system using the newly installed jack in the house I hear static in the background, if I bypass the jacks and hook a standard telephone non-avaya to any port directly there's not static, what could be cause this? Any ideas?

What type of cable do you suggest, the jacks were wired with CAT5e cable.

The first questions are who installed the cable and what type of ends are on the cable?

The cables should be puched down to jacks. If one end has a RJ45 male crimp installed... cut it off and install a jack and see if that fixes the problem. If you have jacks at both ends, use different patch cables. (You would be using 2 patch cables, one at the switch and one at the phone end). If that doesn't work. Used new jacks and re-jack both ends. If that doesn't work I would question the cable inself or the installation of the cable. Do you have a line tester? Have you check for shorts or splits. Is the phone line running next to electical wire, Lights, or large appliances? Is the wire tied in knots right next to an electrical motor?

I would have never though of putting a jack near the switch I just crimped a RJ11 head to the switch end and plug it into the ACS, I am using RJ45 jacks though and those are puched down, the cable are running in the attic very close to electrical wires not near any motors though dont really want them running outside the house, I did check the cables for shorts and splits as per your recommendation and didn't find any problems there, I used the same cable I used to install the jacks and I notice that the longer the cable the more static there is, so I made a short 12 foot cable just for testing purposes and noticed there was zero static, could it be the length of the cable (24AWG) ?? Would that have anything to do with it?? I appreciate all your help guys..

FYI - I have found more problems with self made patch cables and crimped ends. For do it yourselfers I have 1 rule. DO NOT MAKE YOUR OWN CABLES. You can buy manufactured patch cables in bulk for a buck on eBay. Also do not use crimped ends. They can cause intermittent problems.

The above may not your problem. You said that you ran the cable next to electrical wires. That’s bad! You want to separate electrical and communication. If the cables need to cross, cross the cables at 90 degree angle. Florescent lights are also bad. Don’t have kinks in the cable and do not leave loops in the cable. Fix all these things and it will probably work.

If these things don't fix your problem it might just be bad cable.
