Static on a 1416 handset and speaker

I have recently installed a Avaya IPO 500 v-2 8.1.43.
The main phone a 1416 has sporatic static on the handset and speaker. When the set is unplugged and plugged back in the static goes away for awhilw and then returns eventually. The handset gain is also turned off.
I upgraded the software to the latest 8.1.67. No static yet just posting as a precaution.
