When i attempt to start XP pro i get a blue screen that says: a problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer. ive tried all the options when you press F8 and none of them work. the error screen comes up even when attempting to use safe mode and last know working config. dont really want to re-format my drive, but i dont know what to do now. i cant even get it to boot from the cd because i dont know how to do that. i dont get a command prompt anywhere. any help or direction will be greatly appreciated.

Insert the XP cd in your cdrom and ensure that your BIOS boot sequence starts with the cdrom and walllla the system will boot from the cd. THis option may help because you can pick the repair mode. Good Luck!

hi insert windows xp cd and then reinstall win xp it wil fix u r problem as well data

regards
Mandar,

Well i just had that problem.

The restore CD on some machines DO NOT give you the option of just restoring the OS... it completely reimages the drive.

You can't access the drive becuase its in NTFS.

Hopefully you backup up your data... cause u gotta do the restore.

see my post "tips for recovery and repair in win xp" posted on 5/15/02. in particular, try tip #3 under "system will not boot". you shouldn't have to reformat and reinstall.
