I've installe unix (mmm, forgot the version number) but when I log in i'm at the command line. Then I type "startx" and unix tries to start xwindows. After the screen goes black I pop's back to the commandline. It sais that there is a wrong resolution, it can't handle such a resolution. It's very likely becaus I've got a S3trio mach64 in there, and it's nog capable of shoing resolutions up to 1600x1200... oops... During the installation i've made a mistake by saying it can handle this.

Now is my question, where can I change the resolutions for xwindows so maybe it will start sometime :)

Yeah, you forgot the version number.

You also forgot to mention the flavor, and for a question like this it matters a great deal.

Please- if there is a specific forum for whatever you are installing (there is for SCO, Linux, Hp and more), do us all a favor and post the question there.

On a lighter note you can try typing xconfigurator at the command line and see if it gives you the config :) I can't have sent that email, it says from Superuser.

"xconfigurator" is a Linux thing..

Why don't we just give him every possible command for every OS we can think of?

I'm sorry but I wasn't able to check it right at that time... It's for Linux Red Hat 6.1. I don't know the kernel numberbut I don't think it's important.

In that case, you should be able to run XF86config and adjust the display settings in there. It will prompt you through the settings, so just try something conservative to start with.

I hope this helps
