Startup Parameters in Services

Is there a way to startup a Service so that it only runs when a specific program runs and disables itself when you finish running? When I run the Cisco VPN client from my desktop it requires 2 services to be running, however when I have to run the Nortel client the 2 services that are required to run Cisco have to be disabled.

You can set service dependencies very easily.
However, this normally helps you during boot. You are asking for something that would just automatically detect and shut down/start up things as you start to use them. This is complicated.

You might be better off just creating scripts to run before using the VPN products.

For example:

Before starting the Nortel VPN client run the STOPCISCO batch script.

STOPCISCO.bat =

Net Stop Nortelsvc1
Net Stop Nortelsvc2

This way you have to click on an extry icon but the serivces would then be stopped for you...

Hi Joesph,

After further reading I discovered that Nortel wants the Services disabled, I throught just stopping them would do the trick. but they want them disabled.

Thanks for responding to my question. Any ideas about disabling a service?

Not good advise really. I've ran into the same problem in the past. The only acceptable answer I concluded was not to have multiple VPN clients running on one machine.

I eventually created a dual boot system to deal with the multiple VPN I had to connect with.

What you suggested is what I already did, I think I'm going to leave it alone for now., Thanks for your help
