Starting with an idea - plenty

I'm looking at putting together myself a website following an idea I had. Please note, the website is not as stated here - but the principals required are - and I have a few questions that I will be researching over the next few days but hope to be given some head-starts from people having gone through the same thing. It should also be noted that I am new to web-design but want to get my idea on-line to prove a point to myself and build on as time moves on.
Lets suppose that I'm together a website with pictures of people who look like a monkey - I'm not but the same kind of questions need to be answered ..... (may sound daft now)
(1) I'm in the UK so am looking at a URL that ends .co.uk. Lets suppose I want something like Where can I register this domain with some available webspace - may need something in the region of about 50MB as I hope to display a number of pictures (may require more webspace as time goes on). Am I able to register a domain through one company and then make use of free web-space - possibly in more than one location through different suppliers ? Would the URL at the top of the users browser still reference my web-address or the location of the space on which the files are maintained ?
(2) I want to include pictures on my website but it has been indicated to me (in previous postings) that I need the persons permission before I can show them on my site. To get round this I intend to have the subject (person who looks like a monkey) to hold some paper with the website address URL on it as proof of permission. Is this sufficient ?
(3) Suppose these pictures were taken in a pub - would I then be able to name the pub or would I be prevented without permission of the pub owner ?

I appreciate that these questions sound a little strange (my intention is not to set up - good luck to the man who does !!!) but hope that someone can give me a few pointers with these theoretical questions ?
Thanks in advance
Steve

Sorry - the subject was supposed to read 'Starting with an idea - plenty of questions .....'.

(1) I'm in the UK so am looking at a URL that ends .co.uk. Lets suppose I want something like Where can I register this domain with some available webspace www.prohosting.com is who i use.. - may need something in the region of about 50MBno you don't.. that is way to much..if you plan on loading a site that is more than 50mb you should make other plans..no one will see it.. as I hope to display a number of pictures (may require more webspace as time goes on). Am I able to register a domain through one company and then make use of free web-space - possibly in more than one location through different suppliers ? simply no! Would the URL at the top of the users browser still reference my web-address or the location of the space on which the files are maintained ?the files that u use for that domain must be at that domain..now with saying that you could have free web space and link to that domain..but you can't have that domain pull up a free website address..

(2) I want to include pictures on my website but it has been indicated to me (in previous postings) that I need the persons permission before I can show them on my site. To get round this I intend to have the subject (person who looks like a monkey) to hold some paper with the website address URL on it as proof of permission. Is this sufficient ?well if you actually know the person well enough to have them hold up a picture for you it is probably understood that you have permission..that would not be necessary..
(3) Suppose these pictures were taken in a pub - would I then be able to name the pub or would I be prevented without permission of the pub owner ?dude if you are just posting some pictures and wanted to say "hey this is me and monkey boy at monkeyboys pub on saturday night, then i don't think you would need permission..the only way i am sure that you would have to ask permission is if you were making money off promoting the monkeyboys pub thru your site..

1. Type "Web Hosting" into a search engine and you'll discover many companies the host websites and will register a domain for you. Just compare what they offer and comparison shop. I use OLM and misselainenius.net and have no complaints. One thing -- if you register an domain through a hosting company make sure you, and not they, are listed as the owners/contact people. It will make your life a lot easier if you move to a different hosting company eventually.

2. Yes... if you are going to have a lot of pictures on your site then you'll need at least 50 meg to start with. I have one site that is picture intensive and we're up to about 300 meg in storage. You could store your pictures on multiple servers -- but free servers will almost certainly kick you off if they catch you using them as a storage depot. The URL would point to the other server.

3. I'm not a lawyer -- and certainly not familiar with UK law -- so take the following with a grain of salt (and seriously consider hiring consulting an atty)... you do not need the person's permission if you took the picture in a public place. However, if they'll give you written permission, just have them sign a release (standard release forms can be bought in most camera stores) and keep them on file. If the pub owner doesn't want you taking photos he'll kick you out, but it seems it would be a courtesy to mention his business on your site.

4. Good luck.

Like DoubleHelix, I also use OLM (WebAxxs.Net); while support has been spotty, its a great value, with hundreds of Mbtyes for under $16 US.

Expounding on Double's #1, I would suggest NOT registering the URL through the hoster for just the reason mentioned (I had a bad experience with this). Instead, take a look at the registrar I've been using: 000domains.com. They are only $13.50 US per year, and the Web-based interface gives you complete control over everything (in fact, it was the only way I could correct the "Registrar" entry from my bad experience - transferring it to 000domains then correcting it). Hi mate,

I`m also in the UK and I registered my site with
Definatly worth a look, it cost me Approx £6.50 to register my .co.uk domain for 2 years and it`s simple and fast to change to another server.

There is a free host in England (No pop-ups or banners) BUT the servers are down quite a bit and you would probably have to pay for the amount of space you are wanting. It`s up to you even if you score them off your list.

About the legal issues, I am not a lawyer but, I think your best bet would be to include a disclaimer so that if anyone objects to their pictures being displayed, they contact you and you can remove them.

Hope this helps
Wullie
