Hello All,
I need some assistance. When I start Vi I get the message "/var/tmp/Ex0000005296" No such device or address.
Also if I try to create a file by running "touch test" anywhere in the filesystem I get "touch: test cannot create" But it does create the file. Then if I remove that file I get the following error, "rm: test not removed: No such device or address".
If I change directory into /var, and run "ls", I get the following output. And Everything looks OK

NS1:/var# ls
audit dmi inet log mail nis preserve saf statmon yp
adm crash dt ld lost+found news ntp run snmp tmp
apache cron http ldap lp nfs opt sadm spool uucp

But when I run "ls -al" I get the following output.
NS1:/var# ls -al
./lost+found: No such device or address
./uucp: No such device or address
./dt: No such device or address
./nis: No such device or address

If I try to change directory to one of those directories that says "no such device or address", I get the following error, "ksh: dt: bad directory"

I am not sure what is going on. Any assistance would be much appreciated. And if I can provide more info., let me know.

I had a similar problem yesterday with this. I went through my /var/tmp directory and noticed files that weren't accessed for 2 years, which led me to believe they were temp files no longer being used. I erased those files.

Since then, I never had a problem with the message you described above.

I looked at the files in /var/tmp. Nothing was very old, but I did delete them. The problem is still there. Additionally, I have plenty of room on the /var partition.
