I am running Oracle8i and want to start up 2 db writer processes.

I assumed that I just needed to change the db_writer_processes=2 in the init.ora file and bounce the database but that didn't work.

When I look at the processes, I only see dbwr0.

When I log onto sqlplus and show the parameter, it only shows 1. I double checked and the init.ora file says 2.

What am I doing wrong?

Just checking the obvious:
I presume you know that init.ora is just a sample file, not having any effect on your system?
The file you should edit is named init<SID>.ora.

When he says init<SID>.ora

He means that if your database is named test, the init file willbe named inittest.ora

Looks like the problem was that I needed to change db_block_lru_latches to something greater than 1.

Thanks for the responses.
