Hello Everyone.

So before I get shot down, yes were still using NT4 servers. The software we use needs it, and to be fair, it still works a treat. However, I have a problem. One of the BDC's was turned off about 6 months ago after a fault and was never touched again. It's now needed back online and it's in my hands. Given that this BDC has been off line for 6 months, the SAM wuill be well out as will everything else. Is it wise to just power this box back up, connect it to the Domain, and let the PDC replicate to it, or do I need to do some work prior to this? I was thinking about rebuilding it and adding it, but I've been stopped from doing that. Don't ask why. I did and that was another hour of my life wasted.

My other issue is when I run BROWSTAT STATUS, it reports that 2 of my Win2k servers are backup servers, as well as 72 other servers on the domain. No idea why the 2 Win2k servers are listed as backup servers, and the other 72 servers match up with the same number of Win2k PC's on the domain. Is this right or wrong??

Any ideas pointers - other than get rid of NT4 would be great.

Bye.

Marty

When I had to build BDCs for remote offices (about 6 years ago), if they sat offline for awhile then essentially when I brought them back up they could not be authenticated against the domain.
Short of re-building the BDC, what I did was use NETDOM to re-establish the secure channel between the BDC and the PDC and then proceeded to replicate.
