Starting Tomcat results in multiple java processes

Hi all,

Just a brief question, for a Tomcat newbie. I have successfully installed Tomcat on our companies Linux web server. Problem is the huge number of java processes running as a consequent (see below). Our network administrator doesn't like it. Tomcat won't be doing too much work in this instance, so is there any way to reduce the number of these (a configuration setting perhaps)?

Thanks,

Chris.

Chris,

I've never run Tomcat on Linux but on NT 4 and Win2K that does not happen. It seems that there is a problem with your installation or perhaps the Linux startup files for Tomcat.

this isn't a accusation but it seems that there is no one in this forum who has expirence with webservers in a unix environment at all.... that's realy sad. [sadeyes] patrick.metz@epost.de

Actually, I had given up completely on getting any kind of response from this 'ghost-town' forum. The irony is in that the Tomcat community really does need an eForum. I joined the Tomcat mailing list, only to get swamped by 100+ emails per day! Mailing lists are fine for small eCommunities, but not for eContinents.

Thank you for your replies.

it's hard to find useful installation-tutorials on the web aswell... especially when it comes to compiling the whole stuff or use tomcat together with apache. i have struggled for weeks to get my apache running with all plugins and the tomcat-server. [sad] patrick.metz@epost.de

chris,

almost forgot... is there an application already running on your tomcat? did these java-processes appear right after starting the server or after attempting to use the web-application??

cheers
