Starting the designer tutorial

Sorry that I have to ask this dumb question, but I figure that somebody else could help me before I waste too much time. I am trying to start the designer tutorial. In the online manual it says to start a program called "Oracle Designer for Tutorial User". It is supposed to be in the Oracle Designer Tutorial folder. Off of programs on the Start menu I have a folder called "Oracle Designer 6i Tutorial", but it doesn't have the program mentioned. Can anyone point me to the location where I can start the program? Also, how can I tell if all of the tutorial data has been imported?

I have the same problem with designer release 3. I have a folder called Oracle designer tutorial but I do not have an Oracle Designer for Tutorial User folder.

Running 2.1.2: my "start" menu does include an Oracle Designer Tutorial folder, in which four icons are present (something like: "about...", "Populate tutorial tables", "Drop tutorial tables", "Oracle Designer for Tutorial User&quot

However, I seem to remember that I had to select explicitely an option "Install tutorial tables" (or something similar) at installation time in order to get this result. Might that be the problem with your current installation?

That may be the problem, but I'm not worried about the tutorial anymore since I figured out how to do what I needed to do. At any rate, thanks for the response.

Bhunter - please can you inform how you have been able to use the tutorial.

I am currently new to designer and want to know how If I can view tables created in sqlplus in designer and vica versa.

dps - After I played around with the designer for a while I was able to figure out what I needed to know. I never actually used the tutorial. Maybe someone else in the forum can answer the question for you. Sorry, I couldn't be of more help. Good luck.

dps - I can tell you that you need to use the tool called "Design Editor" to create the table definitions that you want. When you have them you can generate the DDL with that tool as well.

Hello, to start the designer tutorial,

- start Oracle designer (OD) with repository privilege rights

- select any application or do simply cancel

- start the repository object navigator

- select the menu item "application->Restore"

- click on browse and specify "tutapsys.dmp" as the file to import (it is located in the ctux71 directory where you installed OD)

- Click on Open to select the archive file import dialog bix
- click on import
- Click OK
- When asked for the name of the project specify TUTORIAL
- Click on Restore. The application status is set to "**Restored**"
- Close the dialog boxes
- You now can follow the tutorial instructions.

Note that the whole process is described in appendix A of the Oracle Designer tutorial.
