I'm hoping to restart my software development career, and could use some advice about where I should begin.
My specialty is client-server, Windows forms based applications. I worked in Visual Basic 6 for many years, and gained my MCSD in Visual Studio 6 back in 2001.
For various reasons, I got out of the IT business altogether between 2003 and 2006. By the time I left in 2003, I was working in XML, HTML, DHTML, JavaScript and ASP, but no .NET as yet.
Now I'm back in IT, working in Visual Basic with Visual Studio 2005, and would like to get properly back on track with a new certification.
So what's the best place to start? The MCSD exams are aimed at earlier versions of .NET, but the MCTS exams are aimed at people who have 2-3 years experience in Visual Studio 2005.
I moved straight from VB6 into Visual Studio 2005, so the MCSD doesn't seem appropriate. But I only have a year's experience with VS2005 so far, so am I ready for MCTS?
Is there anybody out there who has taken or is currently taking either of these certification routes who could provide some advice?
