I am on a W2K system and having problems automatically starting mysql (as a service) at bootup. When the computer first boots up and displays the login prompt, mysql starts fine, but after login, the service has started, but I get the login error (cant connect on localhost...). If I stop and restart the service (net start mysql) everything works fine. DOes anyone have an idea why I need to restart mysql in order to connect?

I think that what you want to start on boot is the server mysqld not the client, mysql
