Here is the deal:

I want to add a line to my .profile that will start an app called "dpt" in
the workspace called Lab.

Starting the app works fine but how do I get it to start in the "Lab"
workspace?

Thanks

I don't know the answer to your question,
but I am guessing that you mean you want
have an application startup and a specific
desktop window. If this true, I think that
may be specific the the gui interface you
are running. (kde,gnu,cde,etc.)
I would see if you can find a forum
on tek-tips related to the gui you are running.

The platform I am using is Solaris, the gui has 4 workspaces, and these are basically different desktops all on once box. I can run 5 apps in one workspace then click on the workspace 2 button and those apps will still run (in WS 1) but workspace 2 will be empty.

I hope this makes sense

Yes, that makes sense.
Unfortunately, I do not have a Solaris desktop.
I think you may have better luck posting
this in the Solaris forum, forum60.

I belive you can red flag your own post
and ask to have it moved to that forum.

hi,

so you want to run your apps. on all workspace? if that is the case. try to do this. on your apps window, on the top left, there like a minus sign on it. Try to click your right mouse botton, and you will see the option to occupy work space or occupy all workspace.

good luck......

I agree with R Jordan, I believe in order to tackle the problem you'll need to find some information on your work environment (ie, Openwindows, gnome, CDE, etc.). Alot of parameters are customizable, but I'm not sure which file(s) you would need to look at for this information. Sorry I couldn't be of more help.
