Sorry for asking these questions which for most of you would seem basically simple, but we have just upgraded from a 6x16 to a Modular plus.

Where exactly do I plug in the Startalk 180 voicemail system ???

The startalk has 2 cables (it is a 2 port model) which I am assuming I need to "punch" into extension ports, I am then assuming the MICS will detect the startalk system and activate the "feature 9xx" codes.

The MICS reports DR6 at the end of the software version.

My second question relates to the ISDN2 upgrade we will be upgrading to later this year. HOW do I program the DID/DDI lines to route directly to an extension ???? Are these the 081 Lines which I map to an extension ??

Your probably guessing that I don't have a manual (your right, I bought the system on ebay).

HELP.

Nadamson- it is actually not that basic of a question. Once you do connect it, there is extensive programming that needs to be done. This is not meant to be insulting, but even if you did have the manuals, you would still probably need a vendor. The manuals are not written for someone with no OJT. So, my sincere advice to you is find a good vendor who is qualified with Nortel, and have him install the system, and train you in its proper use.

Bkrike, your comments are noted.

I've installed the rest of the system and setup the lines/extensions and page groups. The configuration of this seems pretty logical so if anyone else could tell me where to connect the cables it would be a start.

I've always managed to reprogram the 6x16 and 8x24 systems after powercuts (the backup batteries had failed).

Is it two channel/4 channel?
Rj11 cable from VM terminates on the station side of your ksu...depending on your vm you may need 2 rj11's which would take up two station ports..each extension holds two channels for your vm..
Good Luck

If it is the old Startalk A, B, or C then it will not work with the MICS 2.0 or higher. If you have R1/Ti software in the MICS then you need to make sure that the Startalk software is 2.0.4 LC.

I bought the Startalk with the MICS on ebay. The system works perfectly and the phones all work fine to, its just that I have never used voicemail so I just wanted to know where to plug the thing in.

your vm will not work correctly ...also it is atleast 10 years old...manfacturer discontinued 1995

ski season has started

E-Bay strikes again. Something as important as your communications should not be purchased without somekind of warranty.
Your taking a chance.
If your system works for say a month, and then stops, you could be looking at expensive repairs.
Now if you bought the system for a buck, than you did alright.

A couple of questions.... what software release is the phone system? the startalk you have, is it a big metal box or a smaller plastic case. does the startalk have a pcmcia card in it when you open the cover, does the pcmcia have a software version?
either way, there should be a 25 pin serial cable connection on the box some where. connect your laptop and watch the output, it will tell you lots as to where the problem is.

The startalk 180 was actually the 4 port version (manufacture date was 2002 but looks like new).

I got the reset password from another thread, deleted all the old mailboxes and now it works brilliantly !!!.

That was far simpler than I expected (even for someone with my limited knowledge).

There was another thread that had a link to a site with Norstar manuals, but that link seems to auto-forward you to there Panasonic section now.

Does anyone have another link so I can download the MICS/Startalk manuals to read-up on the other features in this phones system ????
