Thanks in advanance for any help.

With my voicemail system, there's 8 classes of service. Usually I have everybody on level 1 because it offers the most storage minutes and with message retention of 30 days. I have some people that I need more storage minutes for though. I know that there's another level, 7 I think, but the retention time is only 15 days.

Is there anywhere to change this either hacking into the system and modifying the values for eah class? I have a replacement hard drive that is supposed to have 1310 minutes of storage available on it and it would be nice to be able to access it all.

TC,
So WHAT voice mail system do you have?

PhM

Sounds like you have an old Startalk. Classes of service can be edited through the RS232 port. Default settings are 300 baud 7-E-1, but it can be anything from 1200, 8-N-1 up to 4800, 8-N-1.

HE HAS OLD STARTALK ON THE LAST RELEASE "Y2K" AND I DONT THINK YOU CAN CHANGE CLASS OF SERVICE UNTIL THE NAM CAME OUT.

I just hooked up an old Startalk B 2.0.4L and was able to edit the classes of service. Here's the text I captured from Hyperterminal:

Class of Service Admin

Enter the class of service number(1-16, Return if Done): 1
Enter the class of service name (20 characters):[]
Enter the prompt language(1-2)[1]:
Enter the maximum mailbox message time(1-180 min):[15]
Enter the maximum mailbox message length(1-15 min):[3]
Enter the maximum days for retention of messages(1-365,0=Don't purge):[30]
Are personal greetings allowed?(y/n):[Yes]
Enter maximum greeting length(1-10 min):[1]
Is access to system group lists allowed?(y/n):[Yes]
Is message notification allowed?(y/n):[Yes]
Enter retry interval(1-60 min.):[5]
Enter number of attempts(1-9):[3]

The values in brackets at the end of each line are the default values. These can be edited by typing in the desired value and then pressing Enter

Brian,
I think from another post this poster has Flash 2.x. I can't remember if a flash can change the COS from hyperterminal. Can't seem to find a post that I remember from a while ago on this.

PhM

I'm pretty sure the Class of Service can't be changed on a Flash, but I'll try to play with one later today. I assumed a Startalk as the original post had a heading that included 2.0.4L.

Just checked a Flash and you can't edit class of service. Here's the menu I get in Hyperterminal:

***********************************************************
Nortel Top-Level Norstar Flash Release 2.0.10
***********************************************************

0 Exit
1 Mailbox Admin
2 Group List Admin
3 System Admin and Configuration
4 Reports
8 Display type [No accents]

Enter a choice, ?, space or ESC:

Wow. Thanks for all the replies.

My bad, I have a old Startalk C ver 2.04L (basically a computer without a video terminal hookup and a harddrive).

Esxmogger: How do I get into my Startalk in order to edit the values that you had posted?

Everybody, thanks.

TC,
Connect to the Flash using a straight through serial cable and a db9/db25 adaptor. Set hyperterminal to 1200 8 n 1. Repower Flash and when fully booted login in at Password prompt using SYSMGR.

Brian,
Thanks for checking the COS/Flash. I remember a VERY long post on it but couldn't bring the string up. I guess we can't keep everything. I have this hazy recolection that someone managed to do this. Think MR was involved in this one.

Cheers All
PhM

Connect to the DB25 connector as Arr describes in the above post. Start with a baud of 300, 7-E-1. Press the Enter key to see if you get a password prompt. If you don't try 1200, 8-N-1; 2400, 8-N-1; 4800, 8-N-1. When you get a password prompt enter SYSMGR. A menu will come up that includes changing class of service.

Where is Melissa? We need her back!
