Hello,

I'm a trying to have a program run when my solaris 8 box is turned on. For example, I would like the box to boot directly into emacs. Of course, emacs is not what I'm trying to run, but it will be a good example. I don't want the login manager to startup, I want to load a program at boot. Any help on how i would do this?

If it's the X server you want to start, you may find that it has simply been disabled using dtconfig. See the man dtconfig page for details. There should already be a built-in mechanism in your installation for starting the X server.

If it's something else you need to look in to the "init" scripts (in the /etc/init.d, /etc/rc?.d directories).
