Hi, we have several servers, that i would like to be notified if they get rebooted or crash and they restart, what apps or scripts do people use here, and whats the best method.. for example say a server reboots over night, i would like to be notified of it somehow, ideally by email.

Many Thanks

Hi Yardyy

What manufacturer are the servers ? We use HP, which has some agents that can generate SNMP traps for certain events etc. I'm not too sure if it can generate traps for restarts etc. We have a monitoring server that continuously monitors all our servers and notifies us if any of them go down. There are loads of products out there that offer this. The one we use is What's Up, made by IPSWITCH

Hi Gmail2,

Thanks for the reply, i have used whatsup in the past, and found that it was pretty good.

The servers that we have a generic boxs, bits and bobs been built up. not anything like HP or Dell, or the like.

I am just trialing some new software called servers alive. works pretty well, but requires a pc to run as a server to do the monitoring. i may have stick with it, and put another computer in for this purpose.

Many Thanks
