Start point of a filter!!!???

Hi all!

I guess its just a simple thing but i am new and recently begun to use after effects...

I have a clip featuring me punching in front of me....
And i want a lightning to shoot out of my hand...
How do i set the lightning effects start point??

When i have added the effect it shows the lightning the whole clip...

Please help me.

You can place the start point and end point of the lightning. It's very easy. Try looking at the manual or experimenting with the settings. That is the best way to learn a piece of software like after effects.
