Im trying to fix the following problem:
In XP (classic view) we are categorizing shortcuts in StartMenu folders called "Viewers", "Programming", "Internet", "Editing" etc. All the programs are being distributed to each PC at campus through unattended installations (SMS). When a new version of a program is beeing installed, the shortcuts in the start menu turns dead! Is there any way to automatic update the shortcuts if they turn dead after a reinstallation?
(Ive added a screenshot if you did'nt understand the consept)

Any help would been truly appreciated!

Best Regards,

Not quite sure why your *.lnk files (shortcuts) are going dead because everything shown should be installed in their default locations and thus updated in those locations. Unless... it is because of some quirk in the update process but a system refresh should take care of that but I'm guessing that these systems are rebooted every night so then why are these shortcuts dead?

So, I would suggest using a script not unlike the original script that created those shortcuts to be run after the updates to delete and recreate.

Hopefully, someone else may shed more knowledge.

Good Luck
