Is there a way to stop services on a remote server before doing a backup, and then start the services again after the backup? I am running version 6.6. I want to be able to backup my SQL database during the backup, but it needs to be stopped. Any ideas?

Thanks,
Rob

The easiest thing to do for SQL, is have SQL create a backup using a maintenance plan. Then have arcserve backup the the backup file created by SQL (.bak) instead of the live database file. Or you can use the Arcserve SQL agent if you want to buy it for Arcserve.

Is it easy to setup a backup in SQL? I haven't worked much with it.

Thanks for the help.

Yes, it is very easy. I know SQL 7 and 2000 (Not sure about earlier versions) have a database maintenance wizard that will walk you through the process. Just go into Enterprise manager, choose the database, right click, chhose all tasks and choose maintenance plan. Also make sure the SQL Agent is running. Or if you have a DBA that administers that server get him to setup the SQL backup and just have him give you the location of the backup file so you can back it up with arcserve.

Thanks, unfortunately I'm the only guy in the dept. I am still trying to learn a few things. I should be able to handle it. Thank you for the help.
